8/31/21 We arrived at Olympic National Park!! Last night we took a late night ferry from Coupeville to Olympic Peninsula and to our campground at 10:30 pm. Sure made for a long day. The next morning we looked around Port Ludlow taking a hike to a waterfall in the park where we were staying.

Port Ludlow RV is one of the nicest locations we have had so far and the waterfalls is adjacent to the campground.

Ludlow Falls trail. Short 1 mile hike

Storm King Ranger station at Crescent Lake
Trail to Marymere Falls trail at Lake Crescent.

Views from Lake Crescent Lodge

Drinks and hors d'oeuvres at the Lodge were great

8/29 - 8/30/21 San Juan Island via 1 1/2 ferry ride. San Juan Isl. is one of 172 islands off the coast of Washington State.

Early morning start to the ferry on the 29th with fog laying over the cold water. Always amazed how many cars and trucks the ferries can carry.

Our ferry which is one of three serving the area.

Beautiful views from  the ferry.

After disembarking we headed out to explore the island. San Juan Isl is most notably known for the Pig War, US vs England. The American & Britain Camp's were about 12 miles apart and they never actually fought. The dispute was over territory at the 49th parallel. During the only skirmish in the 12 year "war" was a pig that was shot. The Britain took the position that the Island belong to them and the Americans claimed the same based on the 49th parallel that runs right through the island. Over the 12 years the two armies actually celebrated Christmas, 4th of July and the English Labor day together. Many of the soldiers became friends over the years. Of Note: George Picket, Civil War fame was the commander of the US troops on the island.

View of Mt Rainer from the American Fort.

Next up was Cattle Point Lighthouse for the 1800's just around the corner from the American Camp

At Cattle Pt. Lighthouse we were just in time for a young man proposing to his girlfriend. Perfect setting and weather.
Views of Friday Harbor the main port for San Juan Isl.

Dinner right on the harbor at Downrigger
Sunset to a perfect weather day

8/30/21  Headed out in the morning to see the British Camp NP which is about 12 miles away from the American encampment on the other end of the island. Not much left after 160 years.

San Juan Sculpture Park. Not my cup of tea but was better that I thought. The sculptures were for sale, nothing under $12,000. Pricey.

Roche Harbor dating backing to the 1800's.

Now one of my favorite stops for lunch- San Juan Brewing.

Back on the Ferry from San Juan Isl. heading to pickup the camper for Olympic Peninsula.
