9/22/21 Well since I last Blogged we have traveled through the rest of Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, and just crossed into Illinois tonight. Whew! Just 838 miles to go until we arrive at home.

The Great Platte River Road Archway Monument is a monument on Interstate 80 located in Nebraska. Opened in July 2000, it houses a historical experience that tells the story of Nebraska and the Platte River Valley part in the development of America. It is interesting that a private group of owners/investors were able to convince the State of Nebraska to build this structure over the Interstate. Not surprising it was a failure ultimating filling a bankruptcy. With the $20 million debt load reduced through the chapter filing it recently reported a small profit.

Wendy had a side trip planned as we crossed the Mississippi into Illinois to find the grave site of her Great Great Grandmother. We were able to find the cemetery with the expert surveyor assistance of our friend Cliff Feldheim over the cell phone to 1st find the coordinates and then instructing us on how to enter coordinates into our GPS. Well after driving down a long gravel road in the middle of corn fields, we found the cemetery and the grave site. Beautiful area with cattle grazing as a backdrop. We think a church was once on the site which operated for 133 years until 1998. Likely burned down, but don't know for sure.
First campfire in 2 1/2 months! The West is so dry from a multiple years of droughts conditions outdoor fires are not allowed. Nice to back in an area that is green ........Smores night.

  1. Glad you are having a campfire with s'mores finally! Enjoy the drive through the Midwest--although I do understand the excitement of seeing your new grandchild! Glad you saw the Golden Spike park--the time we wanted to go was during the anniversary celebration and we decided it would be too crowded. It looks like a neat place. Safe driving to you!
