8/2/21 -  Weather has continued to be dry and the temps stayed in the high 80's low 90's during the day. Night temps drop into the 60's to high 50's.Today was a bit of a drive to Knife River Indian Villages.

The structures were made out of mud and grass on a timber frame each one lasting about 10 years. The round huts, 40 feet in diameter, were constructed in the 1,500's through the early 1,600's. The Indians only used the structures during the summer months along the Knife River in North Dakota, wintering in another structure near trees for protection from the winter winds. The area included 5 distinct areas, with a community of up to 5,000 mud huts. Whole families lived together including their horses at night. Today, all that remains are the round impressions in the earth, pocked marked throughout the landscape.

From there we traveled just a few miles to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center on the Missouri and a Ft. Mandan where in 1805 Lewis and Clark wintered over with the Indians.

Of course we headed back into the National Park for more animal sightings.
Bison in the road. Waited for him to move to say the least.
