8/25/21 - Left Chelan Lake this morning heading to Northern Cascades in Washington State. The drive across went from high desert to lush forest and areas that have had a wildfire.

Road orment on the front lawn. Folks out here park their old trucks etc in the yard as a decoration. This one was the most unusual so far, complete with bullet holes.

We stopped at a cool western style town Winthrop for a lunch, shopping and ice cream.
Winthrop town center. Interesting side note the town remade itself into a western town with new storefronts and wooden boardwalks in 1972 to attract visitors; the plan worked.

The drive over the Cascade mountain range and Washington Pass was specular topping out at 8,000 feet with the mountain peaks at 10,000 feet. Our truck did great pulling the 14,000 lbs camper up the mountain and most importantly back down steep grades

Diablo Lake overlook on our way to Newhalem Campground. The water is turquoise due to the glacier flower melt suspended in the lake.

  1. Glad you were able to make your drive through the North Cascades, unlike us! Looks like you are having really good weather.

Seems like wildfires are finding us--we had a very smoky and hazy morning today from the largest wildlife in Minnesota history that is burning maybe 1-1/2 hours from our place. And there are a couple of fires on Isle Royale now, plus the BWCA is closed for 2 weeks to allow pulling of resources to fight the other fires.

Glad all is well with you and your vehicle!
