8/24/21 Today was an adventurous day with nearly perfect weather. A 10,000 acre wildfire not to far away  from us did haze the skies a bit depending on wind direction. We started early at 8:00 am on the Lady Lake catamaran heading out on Chelan Lake to the remote town of Stehekin.  Chelean Lake is a mountain lake 50 miles long ending at the headwaters of Stehekin. Stehekin, with only 80 residences, is only reachable by boat or float plane The town is beautiful but quirky place to stay or visit.

The boat is powered by twin Cat 900 horsepower diesel engines propelling the 50 seater to over 40 miles per hour. Probably the fastest boat ride I ever had.

We rented bikes and planed to bike about 10 miles to Rainbow Falls and the turn of the century Buckner Orchard farm which is now part of the NPS.
Views of the Stehekin harbour along the way.

This log cabin has been featured in many magazines, postcards etc due to the beautiful setting.

Harbour views

On our bike trex we first arrived at a community garden where the Townies could purchase fresh vegetables. Supplies to the town are delivered by boat, which are ordered online. Orders take a couple of days for groceries etc to arrive.

Just up the road was an amazing bakery where we indulged on pastries and stuffed croissants.

Pic of the Baltimore Bridge designed after the B&O bridge design. Roughly 5 miles up from the harbour.

Buckner Apple Orchard left as it was in the 1920's -30's

Cider Press wagon still with all of its machinery intact.
Rainbow Falls

1893 school house just recently replaced after the Town had to overrule the School Board

New School house: 2021 attendance: 7 students, 1 teacher, grades 1 thru 8. After 8th grade the kids are home schooled or live in Chelan with friends or relatives for the school year.

Headed out after dinner to a local winery - Lake Chelan Winery for a wine tasting. Great fun!
